Surf coaching in Peniche, Portugal.

The idea

  1. Repeat.
  2. Refine.
  3. Resurf.

My approach is very individual and progression-focused. I believe every surfer has different strengths, weaknesses and goals, so I try to understand the surfer first and then build the training around what they actually need.

How coaching works

From the beach to your logbook

  1. Message me

Booking is done on WhatsApp. Tell me when you would like to surf.

  2. Surf together

In-water coaching, video analysis and feedback to help you understand your technique, make better decisions in the water and progress with more confidence.

  3. Your logbook

After the session I add my notes to your private logbook: what went well, what to improve, and video links.

  4. One focus

Each entry ends with one thing to work on next time. You see it first when you open re:surf.

Surfer of the session: Rob

Cantinho

  • Wave height: Chest-Head
  • Wind: Cross-shore

Went well

  • Selected very good waves and committed to turning on them.
  • Attacked the sections and showed good intent to perform turns.

To improve

  • Open the stance slightly more.
  • Use the back foot more.

Focus for next session

  • Keep waiting for the better waves and sitting in the right position.
  • Keep attacking the lip.
  • Continue applying turns with an open stance, more back-foot pressure, and body rotation.

For me, coaching is not just about catching better waves, it's about understanding your surfing, having clear goals and continuously working towards becoming a better surfer.

My story

How I got into surfing

The beginning

I always went to the beach with my older cousins, who were already surfing. In the beginning I stayed on the beach, played and watched them surf. One day they took me to try, and when I stood up on my first wave I was super happy. From that day on I surfed every day.

Competition

I didn't have a board myself, so I always waited until they had time to take me. At some point someone gave me an old board, so I could finally surf whenever I wanted. Then a school saw me surfing and offered to train me for free. That was when I got proper coaching for the first time.

A few months later, two guys walking on the beach saw me surfing. They called me over and asked questions, like "Where do you live?" and "How old are you?" Then they told me to pass by his place to talk more about me. That guy got a local surfboard brand to sponsor me, and a few months later I started competing.

I did all the local competitions around the area where I lived, the famous Rip Curl Grom Search, and some national competitions in Brazil. Then I ended up in Portugal, where I kept competing. Here I did some QS competitions, and I still take part in some national competitions of the Liga MEO.

Coaching

Surfing got quite expensive, and without sponsors I couldn't keep the competition routine. So I decided to specialize in teaching, to keep doing what I love and help people who share the same love for the sport.
